DeSOTO -- Police have identified a robbery suspect who remains on life support after a patron of the restaurant the suspect allegedly robbed followed the man outside and shot him several times.

The suspect has been identified as Antione Devon Cooper, 26, of Dallas.

According to police, in the early hours of Thursday, July 7, they were called to the Waffle House located in the 1500 block of the Interstate-35E service road.

When they arrived, they found Cooper shot in the parking lot.

According to witnesses, Cooper entered the restaurant armed with an AK-47 rifle and robbed several customers as well as the restaurant itself.

One of the restaurant patrons was a concealed handgun license holder and was armed with a pistol. He told police that his wife was coming to meet him at the restaurant.

Cooper left the Waffle House, followed shortly by the armed patron. The customer called out to the Cooper, who turned and pointed his rifle in the man's direction.

The customer opened fire and shot Cooper several times, police say.

The man told responding officers he followed Cooper because he feared the suspect would harm his wife as she arrived, or would return to the store and harm other customers. He was not arrested, and the case will be referred to a grand jury.

To try and identify the suspect, police released photos of his tattoos on his arms, legs, and forehead.
