DALLAS -- Package thieves are in full effect across Dallas-Fort Worth. Police say the culprits will only get more aggressive over the next few weeks, as we approach the holiday shopping season. Officers say be alert, be smart, and be vigilant.

Neighbors in the Northaven Park community are on high alert. Police say a couple of package thieves have been targeting that area. Two men were caught on camera snatching boxes that were delivered to a home and left on a porch.

”This is the time of year for that to happen,” said neighbor Sue Harper.

A few miles away, neighbors in East Dallas are also on high alert. A homeowner on Vinewood captured video of a man that walked up to her porch, snatching a package that was left by a delivery service. The thief jumped in a black Tahoe as his getaway driver sped off.

”I feel like it’s kind of in every neighborhood,” Harper said.

Package thefts are happening in neighborhoods across DFW. Videos from home surveillance systems prove the criminals are brazen.

"They’re driving by. They see it. They stop. They go up there, grab it, and they are gone in seconds," said Garland Police Lt. Pedro Barineau.

‘Tis the season for package thieves to go trolling, according to local police. The crooks know homes are expected to be flooded with holiday gifts and deliveries through the end of the year.

Barineau said the best thing is to be at home during a delivery. However, we know that’s not always possible.

“If you have a good relationship with some neighbors, have it delivered to their home, have it scheduled to be delivered to their home so they can actually receive it in hand," said Barineau.

Another option to reduce the risk of becoming a target is having items shipped to your job.

"If with your place of employment you have the availability and the opportunity to utilize that address for delivery, that’s another thing because someone is always there to receive the package at hand,” Barineau explained.

Neighbors said now is the time to be vigilant. They hope the package thieves are identified, arrested, and taken off the streets.
