Man admits to shooting, killing 22-year-old at Rowlett home, police say

Police said when officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old man had been shot several times.

ROWLETT, Texas — A 21-year-old suspect, who police said confessed to shooting and killing a man inside a Rowlett home early Wednesday morning, has been charged with murder, according to officials.  

The Rowlett Police Department says officers were called to a home in the 2600 block of Primrose Lane around 1:36 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4. 

Police said when officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old Jenson Phipps had been shot several times. Phipps was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Police said during the investigation, 21-year-old Anthony Tavarez was arrested for violation of bond conditions out of Dallas County Court. While in custody, police said Tavarez admitted to shooting the victim. 

Rowlett PD said Tavarez appeared in court for the murder charge Thursday, Jan. 5 and his bond was set at $250,000.
