Texas woman reunited with stolen 14-year-old dog

“She had these little pointy ears. I know her little thin nostrils. And she has a short tail," Alexandra said.

HOUSTON — An Alief woman was reunited with her dog Saturday, a day after we reported that the 14-year-old Yorkie was taken by a man seen on video breaking into her home.

The break-in happened Thursday evening. Alexandra Medellin had video of the man, who she says stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of her valuables, then left with her dog.

“Why you would take somebody's dog like, what, what? What value does does that bring to you?” said Alexandra Medellin.

She said the burglar entered through the garage and used a hammer to get into her house. In security video she shared with KHOU 11, a person can be seen closing her gate and later walking out of the house with her dog, Lily.

After KHOU 11 reported on her story on Friday, Alexandra got a text from a woman claiming to have found Lily. Alexandra asked for proof and immediately knew it was her.

“She had these little pointy ears. I know her little thin nostrils. And she has a short tail," Alexandra explained.

So, law enforcement escorted her to meet up with the woman and she got her dog back. But, the days of searching for Lily have taken another toll, precious time with her father, who's in hospice care.

“I've lost all that time I could have spent with my dad. So having her here to me make things a little bit better," Alexandra said.

And although she got her dog back, she said the burglar didn't just make away with her dog, they took all the equipment that she uses as a creative designer - including lenses and her laptop.

“That's my main source of everything. Sure. No, I can't I can't work right now," she said.

Alexandra has set up a GoFundMe to help replace the stolen equipment.

But now, she's glad she and her 5-year-old daughter have been reunited with Lily.

“It's an angel looking at down at us," Alexandra said.

Alexandra said she filed a police report with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. If you have any information on this case, you're urged to contact them at 713-221-6000.
