WACO — Baylor University reported "all clear" after it sent out an alert asking people to seek shelter following a deadly shooting near the campus Thursday afternoon.
Waco police say a man approached a group gathered in a vacant parking lot around 9th Street and Garrett Avenue and shot one of the men, who died from his injuries.
Police say the man fled the scene on foot and then left the area in a vehicle.
According to tweets sent out by the university, the suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s with a fade haircut and wearing a white tank top and tan shorts. The tweet says he was last seen approaching the campus on 7th street.
A vehicle believed to be the one the suspect used to flee the area was found abandoned at 7th and Ivy Avenue.
Waco and Baylor police are working together in their search for the suspect but said they gave the all clear believing the area to be safe.
