ANNA - An 11-year-old boy drowned in a pond near an undeveloped subdivision off County Road 367 Monday afternoon after jumping off a boat.
The Collin County Sheriff's Office said it was notified at 4:11 p.m. about a boy who fell into the water near South Ferguson Parkway and County Road 1036.
It happened in a pond known as Slayter Creek which continues on downstream.
The child's name has not been released and there was no indication he was wearing a life vest.
The boy was on a sail boat and it appears he got into the water to swim around the boat, according to the sheriff's office, but he never resurfaced.
Several divers were dispatched to the lake where they found the child's body.
A Texas Game Warden assisted in the search and recovery.
The boy's body was taken to the medical examiner's office.
