These careers offer recent grads the best shot at getting a job

Unemployment after graduation is a real fear for college students, and a new study reveals which majors face better prospects post-grad than others.

It’s an age-old question and one of the most difficult decisions for incoming college students to make — follow your dreams or go for a major that for sure will land you a job?

Unemployment after graduation is a real fear for college students, and a new study reveals which majors face better prospects post-grad than others. 24/7 Wall St. compiled the list based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

Science-based college majors dominated in the employment category. According to the list, atmospheric sciences and meteorology majors are the most likely to employed out of all college majors — only 0.58 percent are currently unemployed. This means out of the 25,417 people with bachelor’s degrees in atmospheric sciences and meteorology in the U.S. labor market, only 148 don’t have a job.

Of course, not all of the jobs with the lowest unemployment rate pay high wages. In fact, the top 25 with the lowest unemployment rate have salaries that range from $27,701-$99,363. The average earnings for all college graduates, according to 24/7 Wall St., is $25,818.

The study included all people who graduated with a degree in a major, even those who are unemployed, working part time or out of the labor force.
