SMU ranks highest locally in list of Texas' best colleges

Niche ranks schools based on a number of factors. Those consist of chiefly academics, but also value, professors, campus, diversity, student life and student surveys

Southern Methodist University finished fourth on the list of Texas' top colleges, according to the 2021 Niche Best Colleges list.

The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, Rice University and Trinity University rounded out the top-five list in Texas.

In 2020, SMU had an acceptance rate of 51 percent and its net price was $38,562. Niche defines net price as the average cost after financial aid for students receiving grant or scholarship aid. Nearly 80 percent of students receive financial aid, and the average total aid awarded was $33,548.

SMU received an A- or higher in almost all categories, including professors, student life and location, receiving an overall total of A+. Its lowest score was a B on safety.
