DALLAS -- The United Way of of Metropolitan Dallas has launched its "Change a Child's Story" program to help promote literacy and put books in the hands of children who may not otherwise have access to reading materials.

Michelle Staubach Grimes, daughter of Dallas Cowboys legend Roger Staubach, is among local leaders who is reading to children at local elementary schools.

"Change a Child's Story" is a digital fundraising campaign designed to get books in the hands of children who need them.

Officials hope to instill a love of reading in the hearts of young children and generate awareness about the critical role books play in child's education.

"Change a Child's Story" is an eight-week effort, culminating with a United Way-themed Dallas Mavericks game night on March 7.

The United Way invites people to make a $5 donation, pledge to read to a child for 20 minutes a day, and share the campaign across social media. Click here to donate.
