WFAA is featuring a nonprofit every day leading up to North Texas Giving Day on Sept. 19, which is the biggest day of the year benefiting area nonprofits.

Runnin' Free Ranch

Runnin' Free Ranch offers hands-on activities with horses and counseling to veterans, at-risk youth, those with special needs and their families. They aim to offer a non-judgmental, non-pressured environment so that participants can experience freedom, hope and positive life-changing relationships.

Special Olympics Texas

The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. All funds raised will support programs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

GROW North Texas

GROW North Texas creates a sustainable and secure regional food system.

Their programs encourage economic opportunity for farmers and food producers, support equitable access to healthy, nutritious food, and strengthen sustainable agriculture. They do this by increasing the number of food producers in North Texas by developing and supporting new farmer's markets.

It also offers support and classes for urban farmers and home growers.

Girls Inc. of Tarrant County

The mission of Girls Inc. of Tarrant County is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.

Girls Inc. of Tarrant County serves girls with research-based programming in an all-girl, pro-girl environment. They use afterschool programs, summer camps, and outreach programs to provide girls with life-changing experiences and solutions to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers.

Their goal is to help girls to grow into healthy, educated, and independent women. The Girls Inc. experience builds the 21st-century skills that girls need to thrive.

Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas

Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas (GRRNT) was incorporated in 1997 with a mission to rescue, care for, and place in permanent loving homes, Golden Retrievers in need in the North Texas area and to educate the general public about responsible pet ownership as well as the special qualities of the Golden Retriever breed. 

They are an all-volunteer rescue organization with no paid employees. They do not own nor operate a shelter or kennel space and instead place all of their dogs in loving, volunteer foster homes until the dogs are adopted.

Dancing Classrooms North Texas

Dancing Classrooms North Texas is an in-school program designed to that teach manners, respect for others, and teamwork. Their mission is to cultivate essential life skills in children through the art of social dance. Their vision is to help create schools and communities where every child is connected, respected and provided a safe environment in which to thrive.

The Lone Star Junior Bassmasters

The Lone Star Junior Bassmasters educate children in fishing, sportsmanship and conservation. Many children these days don’t have an avenue to learn how to fish and this group makes that available. There are even tournaments and even scholarship opportunities.

Aid for Educators

Aid for Educators helps new teachers with disadvantaged students fund supplies for their classrooms.  More than 90% of teachers use their own money for their classrooms and students, on average, $500-1,000 per year. Aid for Educators offers grants to new teachers to help them better educate students.

The Don't Forget to Feed Me Pet Food Bank

The Don't Forget to Feed Me Pet Food Bank supply’s pet food to local food pantries.

By providing pet food for those in need during challenging financial times they hope to offer an alternative to surrendering - or worse, abandoning - a family pet. Since 2008, we have collected and distributed over 4-million pet meals to pet owners in need.

Chance to Soar

Chance to Soar provides teachers and students with unique opportunities to learn and reach their future goals.

Their goal is to teach students how to be bold and brave enough to reach out and grab an opportunity when it comes along. They believe teaching students that learning and growing involve taking risks is their core mission.

Patriot PAWS

Patriot PAWS trains and provides service dogs at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The goal is to help restore their physical and emotional independence. It takes 18-24 months and costs $35,000 to fully train and certify each service dog.

Attitudes & Attire

Attitudes & Attire helps equip women with tools to gain self-esteem. The organization and provides these women with a wardrobe to enter the workforce. It consists of three workshops designed to teach women to recognize their self-worth, create a positive image and improve job-search skills. 

The American Heart Association

The American Heart Association’s mission is to create a world free of heart disease. It is the number one killer of Americans each year. The only group that funds more heart and stroke research than the American Heart Association is the federal government.

Drug Prevention Resources

Drug Prevention Resource's mission is to create a drug-free generation through collaboration, innovation, education and advocacy. They help teens develop social and emotional skills and learn to value themselves and others. They educate parents about embracing their role as their child's number one influencer and about how to focus on family wellness.

The Bella House

The Bella House provides a faith-based residence for homeless pregnant women. They offer a safe haven and programs to inspire transformation and brighter futures for new moms and their babies.

Little Hearts of Hope

Little Hearts of Hope exists to bring hope and healing to the hearts and minds of children who have a parent or sibling with a cancer diagnosis. It provides a year's worth of art therapy and play-therapy activities, parental support, and prayer support for the entire family. This program is free to families facing a cancer diagnosis with school-aged children in the home.
