42-foot umbrella: Art or eyesore?

Have you seen downtown Dallas' newest work of art?

A 42-foot, 2,500 pound umbrella has landed upside down in the middle of Akard Street in Dallas.

The sculpture, commissioned by Larry Hamilton and designed by Stanley Ray Abbott, was placed outside the Lorenzo Hotel, which Hamilton owns.

Hamilton says it's an ode to the giant bowler hat displayed in an empty lot on Griffin Street. However, his umbrella has at least one critic, who called it an "eyesore" in a recent article in D Magazine.

Although most of the feedback has been positive, the umbrella isn't loved by everyone. Hamilton says that's ok because he plans to install more super- sized works of art and win over those critics.
