1) Who are you? I am a person who believes in community. Engaging with and contributing to a community is one of the best sources of personal happiness and the best way to progress humanity.
I am excited to embed myself into the community here in Dallas in an authentic way.
Over the last seven years, I was an anchor/reporter for WLWT in Cincinnati. While there, I was really involved in the LGBTQ+ community, both in-person emceeing events or speaking to audiences about my experience and also online, gaining a following of 1.8 million people on TikTok during the pandemic.
In 2022, I was named Best TV Anchor and Best Journalist in Cincinnati. I came in 3rd place for Cincinnatian of the Year, just behind the Bengals’ Quarterback, Joe Burrow, and beloved hippo Fiona (LOL). I received an Equality Ohio award, a Human Rights Campaign award for LGBTQ+ Visibility, and an Emmy Award in 2020 for my work covering teen mental health.
My first job out of college was in Bismarck, North Dakota, where I was a morning anchor and the tribal reporter. There, I made a half-hour documentary about Two-Spirit Native Americans, which I still consider one of the most impactful stories of my journalism career.
I attended Boston at Emerson College and spent my summers interning in NYC at NBC News and LogoTV.
I grew up in Connecticut with my incredible Mom, Dad, sister Jillian and brother Drew. I am a big advocate of recognizing your strengths and tapping into those. I grew up with ADHD, and I (...and my parents & teachers, LOL) struggled with the diagnosis in elementary, middle, and part of high school, until I learned to use my unique skill set at things I was really interested in & good at, like lacrosse, musical theater, and media. It gave me confidence and passion! I built a green screen studio in my basement when I was a sophomore in high school, which is when I solidified that I wanted to be a journalist.
2) What are your interests? I love pop culture, sociology, playing/watching lacrosse, musical theater, running, lifting, watching football/basketball, politics, TikTok, interior design, fashion,
3) Why are you excited to work at WFAA? I was drawn to WFAA because of its legacy and reputation across the country. The storytelling is top-notch. But once I arrived, the station community and the family atmosphere excited me most. I can’t wait to learn from my peers and can focus on issues that matter deeply to me.
4) What's one thing people would be surprised to learn about you? People would be surprised to know I was so obsessed with Lady Gaga. In 2010, before people knew what a viral video was, I made her an (insane) YouTube video which received tens of thousands of views. It was picked up as a story by my local news. The audience coordinator from Good Morning America reached out to me to meet Lady Gaga backstage after the show! It was the greatest experience EVER!
