DALLAS — Eric Alvarez is a general assignment reporter and multi-skilled journalist covering stories out of the WFAA Fort Worth bureau.
1. Who are you?
I’m a mild-mannered reporter by day at the WFAA Fort Worth Bureau. By night, I’m a dad trying to keep up with two beautiful girls. I’m also a native Texan, born in Denton and grew up in Fort Worth. I graduated from North Crowley High School and attended Vanderbilt University as an undergraduate, then got a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
I’ve been a news reporter since 2008, working for various agencies in Nashville, Jacksonville, and now DFW, and I couldn’t be happier to be home.
2. What are your interests?
When I’m not on-assignment I spend most of my time with my family and going on runs to the lake with my dog Simon.
I try to teach my girls about art, and music, which have always been a big part of my life.
I’m also a huge sports fan and spent most of my life playing soccer. If you’re in your 20s or 30s and played soccer in DFW, it’s extremely likely I played with you or against you at least once.
3. What do you like about working with WFAA?
I love working in a newsroom with such a long and distinguished history of producing quality journalism. Society needs honest, well-researched and compelling reporting now more than ever, and WFAA gives me the chance to do it every day.
I also get the freedom to tell a wide range of stories in the neighborhoods where I grew up which is a real privilege. From breaking news situations to keep my neighbors safe to feature stories highlighting the most influential people and uplifting stories this community has to offer, I get to do it all.
4. What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I have a surprisingly large collection of superhero watches! From Superman to Daredevil, I’ve been collecting them for years and have almost 30. My favorites are kept in cases, separated of course, by Marvel and DC. If you look closely you might be able to see which hero I’m channeling on the air.
