COMMENTARY: 'We need to stop hiding the name of a woman who is the victim of a sexual assault'

We are telling women and young boys too, 'if you are the victim of a sexual assault, you should be ashamed, be very ashamed.'

Sometimes I don't like this business very much and I don't understand it sometimes either.

Maverick's owner Mark Cuban is back in the news yesterday because someone found a police report from seven years ago from Portland, Oregon.

A woman said Cuban put his hand down her pants while they were taking a picture.

Cuban says it never happened. The woman says she stands by her complaint one thousand percent but there were no charges ever filed and the woman says she hasn't thought about it in the seven years since.

There's a lot I don't like about this story but I am going to renew my argument that we need to stop hiding the name of a woman who is the victim of a crime, a sexual assault is the only crime we do that and it sends the wrong message.

We are telling women and young boys too, 'if you are the victim of a sexual assault, you should be ashamed, be very ashamed.'

And I think that shame is one of the reasons so many victims don't come forward. I know it's the reason I didn't. I wrote about that years ago and you can Google it up.
