Focused on growth and diversity, this year's lineup features the most non-country acts since 2012 with seven.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo President Joel Cowley says there’s a strategy that goes into scheduling the acts.
“We’re very pleased with what we’ve put together,” said Cowley. “We try to strike a balance. Most of our season ticket holders are interested in country music; but, when you put an act in where someone wants that ticket from them, they’re happy as well.”
Since 2008, the show averages 5.5 non-country performances per year and they usually pack NRG Stadium.
“And when you have an opportunity to bring in a Meghan Trainor or a Fifth Harmony, that’s hard to pass up,” said Cowley.
But country artists will always be the first choice for fans like Ricardo Jimenez. He hasn't missed Alan Jackson in years.
“I just saw the list this morning,” said Jimenez. “I’m trying to see what tickets I’m going to get.”
But his family doesn't always share his taste in music.
“That week during spring break is Meghan Trainor [and] I have two girls. So I may take them to that,” said Jimenez.
Tickets will go on sale Saturday, January 14 at 10 a.m. through AXS Ticketing via RodeoHouston.com. The online "Waiting Room" opens at 9:30 a.m. the same day. Each performance is purchased as a separate order. To purchase another performance, the customer will return to the Waiting Room.
Fans can register in advance at axs.com/rodeohouston_registration.
The official Rodeo Houston Facebook page streamed the announcement live on Monday at 12:05 a.m.
INDIVIDUAL RODEO TICKETS

A 10-ticket purchase limit is set for all 20 performances through the first day of public sales, Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017.
