Cynthia Izaguirre is co-anchor of News 8 at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. She joined the team in January 2008 after spending 8 years as the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. co-anchor of the ABC affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Cynthia was raised in Dallas and is a proud product of the Dallas Independent School District. She attended Herbert Marcus Elementary, Longfellow Academy for middle school and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Cynthia attended The University of North Texas and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism with a double minor in Political Science and Spanish. Go Mean Green!
During her time at 8, Cynthia has won many awards including the 2017 National Edward R. Murrow for Best Newscast. The 10 p.m. team took home the award for their coverage of the Dallas Police Ambush in July 2016. Cynthia and John McCaa anchored that award-winning newscast.
Cynthia is most proud of her work with Wednesday's Child. Since 2011, she has produced and anchored the segments which help find abused and neglected children a safe and loving home. In addition, Cynthia is on the Board of Directors for TexProtects: The Texas Association for the Protection of Children. It has become Cynthia's mission to fight for the most vulnerable children in our communities.
Speaking of children, in April 2012, Izzy gave birth to twins! Her daughter and son are Cynthia's pride and joy along with her husband who she affectionately calls Captain Awesome!
Cynthia continues to give back to the community that gave so much to her. Cynthia is from here and best here!
Her number one hobby is to run after her children. The rest of her time is spent working out and also trying to keep up with Captain Awesome. Life is Good.
