Have you ever heard a yelling insect? I think this one belongs to the dragonfly family. It was photographed by my daughter in Plano, TX.
Saturday, July 17, my daughter got up early in the morning to trim hedges; she wanted to beat the heat. When she began to snip, she heard a weird sound that she described as "yelling". Then the hedge rustled and more "yelling". She looked down and noticed a strange insect nestled in the hedge. It was slightly camouflaged among the purple flowers of the hedge, yet distinctly visible.
I hope someone can identify this insect. I did some research and believe I have narrowed it down to the dragonfly family. What I find confusing is that dragonflies are usually around water, yet this one was in a dry hedge far away from water.
