On the third night of Chanukah, Sunday, Dec. 13 at 7:15 p.m., treat yourself to a festive concert for the holiday season. Temple Emanu-El’s own Cantor Richard Cohn will be joined by two of his favorite colleagues from both the east and the west coasts, Cantor Roslyn Barak and Cantor Mo Glazman. This engaging trio will kindle your spirit with musical numbers ranging from theater tunes to Yiddish standards to cantorial gems. A rousing finale will feature the Dreidel Song as you may never have heard it before!
Cantor Roslyn Barak serves Congregation Emanu-El of San Francisco. Known for her gorgeous soprano voice and effervescent stage presence, Cantor Barak is a leading artist of the American cantorate. Before entering cantorial school, she was an opera and concert singer, performing throughout the United States and Israel with organizations such as the Santa Fe Opera, the Israel National Opera, the Jerusalem Symphony and the Israel Philharmonic. Her compact disc recording, “The Jewish Soul,” is an acclaimed collection of selections covering the breadth of the repertoire.
Cantor Morris Glazman has appeared in concerts throughout Europe, Israel and North America. He has performed at New York’s Merkin Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, and his repertoire spans cantorial, Broadway, classical and folk genres. In addition to his pulpit and teaching responsibilities at Congregation Kol Ami in White Plains, New York, Cantor Glazman conducts three choirs, a klezmer band and an adult drama club. He has produced and recorded “Kabbalat Shabbat,” a CD of liturgical music, and he is featured on a CD celebrating the music of “The March of the Living.”
Since arriving in Dallas in 2006, Cantor Cohn has won the hearts of his congregation and energized the music program at Temple Emanu-El. The December 13 concert is the first performance at Temple Emanu-El to be designated as “A Pollman Performing Arts Program”. It is being presented as a featured event of the new “Music Around Emanu-El” initiative.
The three cantors will be accompanied at the piano by Patrice Koenig and joined in various selections by the Temple Emanu-El Choir and the Zamarim Youth Singers. A pre-concert reception featuring wine and appetizers will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Tobian Auditorium at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Texas. Tickets are $5 per individual and $18 for families of four or more.
