Irving's landmark restaurant Crystal's Pizza & Spaghetti is closing its doors after the weekend of February 16th & 17th after over 35 years of service.
The news first came through their Facebook page last weekend when they announced that they're closing after February 9th, which caused a lot of panic with some of its loyal customers. However, it was taken down hours later. They did note they were in fact closing, the owner of the said Facebook page jumped the gun too soon as there were at least 3 more party groups scheduled to be there before this weekend.
I've been a regular customer there myself since the late 1990s and I had some fun cherished memories there. There had been some ups & downs in recent years, but I mainly focused on the positives. The video games, the cartoon theater, the occasional magician shows, and...basically great quality time with family and friends.
I remembered when I first went there on May 8, 1998 as a field trip with a group of special needs students from Austin Middle School. The pizzas were great, the atmosphere and vibe is lively. Basically, it had a great daily turnout. Then almost a year later, my family and I joined a cool club and went there on a monthly basis.
Through February the 17th, the staff of Crystal's is offering Take-home one-topping pizzas for $6 as announced on their Facebook page. Just mention the said offer. Far as any other items around the place, the staff is not auctioning them off. However, anything will be up for sale. Go to Crystal's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Crystals-Pizza-Spaghetti/119929774686119) for more details on how to obtain said items.
This wasn't the only closing in Irving that has left several voids. Late last summer, AMF Bowling Lanes in Irving suddenly closed its doors without a word of any "last chance" days. Griff's in Downtown Irving also closed with the old building demolished. However, Griff's will be given a new bigger facility complete with a drive-thru.
Feel free to share your memories of Crystal's Pizza.
