The North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary (NTRS) was started 20 years ago. NTRS is an all volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3), no-kill organization based in Garland, Texas that rescues abandoned rabbits, finds them new forever homes as house rabbits, and provides rabbit care information to the public.
We also have another division of NTRS which is the Haven of Hope. The Haven of Hope cares for rabbits with special needs.
Rabbits are the third most popular house pet in the United States, and unbeknownst to the general population; however, to go along with that, they are also the third most surrendered animal at shelters.
Rescues for dogs and cats are often showcased and given publicity, and we would love to have a little publicity for rabbits too. Their care is unique and most people think they make "good starter" pets for children or that they are boring animals. This statement could not be more false! We would love if WFAA would be willing to do a story on our rescue to help dispel some of those myths and to provide exposure for house rabbits.
