MESQUITE TX--August 12, 2012 High winds broke a telephone pole on the North side of I-80, just West of I635 in Mesquite at around 3pm today, breaking the pole on the opposite side of the freeway leaving high-voltage power lines spanning the length of the freeway. East and West bound traffic was stopped for more than 30 minutes as emergency crews worked to remove the lines from the freeway. The downed lines caused the dry grass along the median to catch fire but was controlled quickly by fire crews. There were no injuries.
