Dallas Fire Rescue responds to a 3 alarm fire in a vacant apartment building in the 2700 block of Knight Street. Fanned by high winds the fire quickly consumed the building, which had recently been vacated to make way for new construction. Flames reached more than 100 feet high at times, and showered surrounding structures with an almost constant rain of burning debris. Fortunately recent heavy rainfall left neighboring buildings and vacant property wet and soggy - preventing any spread of the fire. Eight DFD fire engines, five ladder trucks, three ambulances and more than a dozen other support units responded to the scene. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, despite the high winds. Although officially vacant, a small number of homeless persons had been known to be occupying the building from time to time. It is unknown if there were any injuries to either civilians or fire personnel at the time of this report. The cause of the fire is unknown.
