Animal Cruelty

On Saturday March 3, 2012 I received an urgent call to rescue 20 puppies. After battling with the owner of the puppies, she finally agreed to release only 2 sick puppies, 1 runt from each litter. The 2 puppies that were rescued Saturday were very malnourished, had such severe conjunctivitis that their eyes were sealed shut, flea infestation and tape worms.
On Monday she agreed to surrender the other 18. I knew I needed help and contacted Amy Gosnell of Collin County Castaways. At first there was hesitation because of the lack of foster homes and financial support to care for 18 puppies on top of the care they provide for the dogs that are already in her rescue program. At this point I was very concerned for the welfare of the puppies and the challenge I faced to retrieve the puppies before it was too late.
My phone rang and it was Amy Gosnell. Collin County Castaways was not going to let 1 puppy slip through the cracks regardless of funds and fosters. We were determined to save every puppy now and worry later.
When we received the 18 puppies they were confined to a laundry basket with no room to move and the puppies that were at the bottom of the basket were dangerously over-heated and passed out from heat exhaustion. I immediately rushed to the veterinarian and after a few hours, fluids and steroids the puppy I was fostering began to awake and become alert of their surroundings.
Yes, the puppies are doing much better but are still in need of medical attention, vaccinations, de-worming, food supplies and accessories. Their care is costly and we need the public’s help. Since the birth of these puppies, they have only known human abuse and suffering.
I cannot express enough the importance of neutering your animal to prevent horrific tragedies like this from reoccurring everyday all around our world. I cannot express the importance of fostering and adopting shelter dogs. Every animal deserves a life filled with the love from a human. They look to us for exercise, discipline and love. Those three little words that a dog can only receive from the human hand are what they long for and it is our responsibility to provide these animals with a life they deserve.
Below is a link to help Collin County Castaways provide the proper care for the puppies. We urge you to make a donation and help us care for the animals of Collin County Castaways!
We have several puppies that within a few weeks will be going to their forever home thanks to the families of Primrose School of Chase Oaks that have stepped up to lend a helping hand.
