This is just one of the cookies that we bake during the Holidays. These cookies take me back to Germany everytime I make them. My mom taight me how to make them and I have since took over making them. My mom say's that mine are better then hers. Here is the recipe that we use:
2 cups Flour
1 + 3/4 sticks Butter, at room temperature
1 cup ground Almonds
3/4 cup Sugar
3 packages Vanilla Sugar ( you can purchase this from the German Deli) or you can use Powdersugar
In a mixing bowl, beat butter until smooth. Add half of the sugar and beat until absorbed into the butter. Add almonds and flour and mix together until a dough forms.
Refrigerate dough (covered) for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Form crescent shape cookies. Place cookies on greased or parchment-paper-lined cookie sheet. Bake cookies for 15 minutes or until light golden brown.
Combine remaining sugar and vanilla sugar. While cookies are still warm, sift each with sugar mixture.
