Red Cross sending volunteers to Louisiana amid flooding

Dallas Red Cross members leave for Louisiana

DALLAS -- The American Red Cross of North Texas is sending volunteers to Louisiana Monday to help in the aftermath of devastating floods.

At least five people are dead and more than 20,000 have been rescued after heavy rain brought flooding across the state over the weekend, prompting Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards to declare a State of Emergency.

About 10,000 people woke up Monday morning in shelters. Emergency crews are going house to house, still rescuing those who are trapped.

Anita Foster with the Red Cross says crews from Dallas, McKinney and other Texas cities are heading to Louisiana with food and supply trucks.
