It was unexpected, but a game planned at the University of Texas last week revived the national debate on illegal immigration.
It also proved to be a teachable moment for a conservative North Texas lawmaker.
UT’s chapter of “Young Conservatives of Texas” planned the game called “Catch an Illegal Immigrant”. It was basically an elaborate game of tag. Students would win $25 gift cards for catching people wearing signs that read “illegal immigrant”.
After the story went viral, the event was cancelled. But, the debate it stirred goes on.
It inspired State Representative Jason Villalba to take a stand, one that’s surprising people in his own party. He joined Jason Wheeler on News 8 at 4pm to talk about what became a teachable moment in his own family.
