Prosper High School is 52 miles away from Lancaster, but to Eagles quarterback Davis Webb, it's a lot closer.

"My grandparents live there, my great grandparents live there, my aunts, uncles, cousins. Mom and Dad went to high school there," said Davis, a senior at Prosper. "So I'm really the first Webb who hasn't gone to high school there."

Prosper will play Lancaster Saturday in the third round of the playoffs. Any game this late in the season is a big one, but for the Webb family, this game will have added significance due to the family's history with the schools.

Davis' father, Matt, is currently an assistant coach at Prosper, went to school at Lancaster and later coached there.

"My wife's granddad was born in 1900 in a house that's still there in Lancaster," said Matt Webb, the wide receivers coach. "He was born and died in the same room. So, our roots in Lancaster are incredibly deep."

Davis' mom was an all-state tennis player in the mid-80's, playing on the tennis courts behind the old high school. Donna Webb finished second in state every year during her four years at Lancaster.

"Lancaster was really neat, because it was a tennis town," Donna Webb said. "It was just a really neat place. In 1980, you'd have to drive around to find a tennis court, because all of them were taken."

Bev Humphrey is Lancaster's athletic director. She was hired 25 years ago by Davis Webb's grandfather, who was the deputy superintendent at the time. And Humphrey is well aware of Donna's tennis achievements.

"Her picture was one of the ones that I looked at a lot," Humphrey said. "It was hanging in the Hall of Honor for 16 years, and I walked that hall every day."

And now Davis gets the chance to make his mark on the Lancaster high school sports scene when he faces the Tigers on Saturday.
