WAXAHACHIE - It's time for some family fun - 16th Century style! The Scarborough Renaissance Festival is in full swing in Waxahachie. Step through the gates and you will be transported into the world of King Henry VIII.
Tuesday morning News 8 went behind-the-scenes at the festival and even got caught in the middle of a flaming sword fight! The dynamic duo with the flames? Don Juan and Miguel who have putting on amazing shows at the festival for over 29 years. These two popular performers combine adventure, thrill, and romance to put on a show that you won't forget!
Our very own Colleen Coyle even got to slip into one of the Renaissance gowns. Each piece is handmade by Sky Reach Designs - all traditional Renaissance attire. The women's gowns are made of multiple pieces with a big hoop skirt underneath. Dozens of performers don these costumes as they fall into character at the festival.
The Scarborough Renaissance Festival stretches over 35 acres with re-created English villages, 21 stages, and hundreds of costumed performers.Visitors can enjoy crafts in over 200 shops, sword fighting, Renaissance rides, Human Chess Match, and jousting - just to name a few!
The Scarborough Renaissance Festival runs every weekend (and Memorial Day Monday) through May 27, 2013.
