DALLAS - It has been three years since First Baptist Church announced its plans to build a new $130 million "spiritual oasis" in downtown Dallas. Now the anticipated grand opening has arrived! The church will re-open its doors on Easter Sunday, March 31.

News 8 explored the new church campus Monday morning on News 8 Daybreak including a sneak peek at the new Worship Center.

The new space continues to provide an intimate worship experience, though it seats nearly double the amount of people. Traditional aspects from the old historic sanctuary were incorporated into the new worship space, such as the traditional pews, an organ, and the kneelers. However, the traditional pews have been modernized with lumbar support and wider walkways for easier movement through the aisles.

More Features of the new Worship Center:

  • Seats nearly 3,000 people
  • Consists of one mile of pews made in New Holland, PA
  • Contains pews arranged on a radius for a natural line of sight to the pulpit
  • Contains nine high-definition cameras to capture all program elements
  • Houses a 150-foot IMAX quality screen that uses 7 projectors

The 500,000 square foot First Baptist campus will be an iconic space in downtown Dallas benefitting not just the members of the church but also the entire city. The new campus will be open and accessible to the community.
