WEATHERFORD - Tens of thousands of North Texans are expected to pack into downtown Weatherford this weekend.
Preparations are under way for the 28th annual Parker County Peach Festival.
Thursday morning, News 8 got a first look at the variety of food items locals are making with peaches. The Arts and Crafts festival Saturday will include vendors selling everything from peach cobbler, ice cream, funnel cake and even barbecue chicken and meatloaf featuring a peach sauce.
As News 8 has observed over the years, Weatherford is known as the "Peach Capital of Texas" for a reason.
"That's what we do," said Taylor Hall, with the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce. "We just always have a great crop. The Hutton Fruit Farm here in Weatherford has been around for a while, and they're the staple here in Parker County, and we put them in everything. We're very proud of them. The Peach Festival is a way to celebrate that, and bring some people to town and introduce them to our community.”
The festival is one of the largest single day fairs in the state and runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 14 at the courthouse square in downtown Weatherford.
Admission is free for kids, $5 for adults.
