WYLIE - If your New Year's resolution is along the lines of exercising regularly or getting in shape, you're in good company.

Millions start the New Year vowing to ditch fat and get fit. However, that’s not easy, which is why News 8 traveled to Wylie Monday morning to chat with a personal trainer.

WFAA’s Wyatt Goolsby met up with Delia “Dee” Romero at Wylie’s new Recreation Center, who was instructing some North Texans in the middle of a workout.

Romero advised a few things to keep in mind as you gear up for the year ahead:

  1. Set small goals. Sometimes it’s easier to set daily or weekly goals, rather than looking months or an entire year down the line. For example, how often do you want to work out this week?
  2. Drink plenty of water daily. Romero says it’s always good to stay hydrated, which helps different parts of your body.
  3. Workout or exercise with a buddy. Romero says a friend helps to make sure you are keeping on track, and can help motivate you to achieve your goals.
  4. Get a regular (perhaps monthly) reminder of your fitness goals. Romero advised ordering a year’s worth of a magazine like Fitness or Health to remind you if you get off-track of what you want to accomplish.
