DALLAS - It might have been a little early for hot dogs, but it wasn't for News 8 Daybreak's Colleen Coyle Tuesday morning.
She stopped by Frankie's Sports Bar and Grill in Uptown, where they're hosting a hot dog eating contest on July 4th. The contest benefits Honor Flight DFW, which sends World War II Veterans on a two-day trip to Washington D.C to see the memorial.
News 8 spoke with World War II veteran Paul Fouts Tuesday morning about his experience with Honor Flight DFW. Fouts, an avid traveler, compared his past trips with the Honor Flight DFW one he took last year.
"My wife and I, when she was alive, traveled all over - China, Japan - we traveled by freight air three months at a time, but that two-day trip was by far the best trip of my life," he said. "I took it ... I immediately came home and volunteered. I'm the top fundraiser as an individual."
Save up your appetite and head over at noon Wednesday to Frankie's to scarf down some dogs. It's $20 to enter the Hot Dog Eating Contest, and anyone can participate. All proceeds go to Honor Flight DFW.
The crowned winner of Monday's contest was Bill Katz.
