There's been a major development in the breakup of the Big 12 athletic conference. The University of Colorado confirmed that it is leaving that organization and headed to the Pac-10. Nebraska is expected to jump ship on Friday.
Don't expect it to stop there as five more teams from the Big 12 are expected to follow suit. Officials from the University of Texas and Texas A&M met Thursday to discuss their futures.
Look for Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to accept invitations soon. A report in Kansas City says don't count the Big 10 out just yet.
If and when more Big 10 schools bolt for rival conferences, the Cotton Bowl in Arlington is ready to jump in and become part of the rotation of conference championship games, and perhaps even have a shot at hosting a BCS contest.
