PLANO -- Home security cameras are smaller and less expensive than ever before. That means the pictures of the perps they're catching a clearer and crisper.
These two crooks in Carrollton were caught red handed.
"They both look right at the camera, which is really handy," said Michael Dear, a security camera expert.
Dear is the general manager of SpyCentre.
Dear says the criminals were caught in full HD on a small wireless indoor security camera. Similar cameras can be found at a starting price of $149. The cameras can be placed anywhere in the home and beam a signal to your smart phone or computer.
"Obviously, in the last several years they've really blown up on the DIY market as (it's) far as easier for people to do themselves," he said.
Here's the next level up and SpyCentre's best seller. It's called the Ring Video doorbell.
"The ring itself has captured tons of people, especially for home invasion and package theft," Dear said.
The outdoor camera can be wired into your doorbell. It starts at close to $200. Video starts rolling whenever someone shows up on your door step. You can even communicate with the person at the door when you're not home.
Wan't to step it up even more?
They recommend moving to a professional installation, a hard wired outdoor camera system, with one camera and labor you are looking at about $400.
