As a result of the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement, the NHL experimented with a mid-season bye week in 2017.
Each team had a five-day break, staggered between early January and early March. And, as with every other extended period of down time in the sports world, the rest-versus-rust debate surfaces.

The Dallas Stars recorded one of the nine wins recorded by NHL teams in their first game back from the bye -- a 5-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes. The rest, however, was far from a turning point for the Stars, as Dallas has gone a meager 4-5 since the break.
