Tyrone Crawford returned to game action for the first time since the 2012 season.

Crawford started at left end, but didn't register any tackles in the Dallas Cowboys' 27-7 loss at San Diego Thursday night. Still, it was a significant step for him after he tore his Achilles on the first full day of training camp last year and missed the season.

'I was happy to get those butterflies out of my stomach,' Crawford said. 'Get back on the field, get that feeling back rushing and playing the run. It was great.'

Crawford, the Cowboys' third-round pick in 2012 out of Boise State, is expected to play an important role on the line this year in hopes of turning a historically bad defense around.
