DENTON -- Two University of North Texas football players were arrested last week for allegedly stealing two televisions from a Denton Wal-Mart.

Shedrell 'Sed' Devante Ellis, 19, and Christopher Devante Loving, 21, were booked into Denton City Jail the morning of Tuesday, June 24.

According to the arrest warrants, on Saturday, June 21, an employee at the Wal-Mart in the 1500 block of S. Loop 288 reported he saw three suspects acting suspisciously in the electronics department before they loaded a 24-inch and a 32-inch TV into carts and walked out the garden center exit without attempting to pay. They loaded the TVs into a car and drove away.

After reviewing security footage, a Denton police officer said he witnessed two of the three suspects exit the store with the TVs, while the third left empty-handed. The officer said he identified Christopher Devante Loving as a possible suspect and called him, and Loving agreed to meet him at the Denton Police Department.

Loving brought along his roommate, Sed Ellis, and both were interviewed by police. Loving admitted to stealing the 32-inch TV and Ellis admitted to stealing the 24-inch TV. They were allowed to leave the police department, and came back later to return both TVs.

Both men were charged with theft greater than $50 and less than $500, which is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to 180 days and a fine up to $2,000.

UNT confirmed both men are students at the school, but would not release any further information.

'In keeping with federal law the Family Rights & Privacy Act (FRPA) -- UNT does not discuss publicly the specifics of any individual student conduct investigation or student disciplinary action,' said university spokesman Buddy Price.

Ellis is listed as a sophomore linebacker and Loving is listed as a redshirt junior tight end on the UNT football team's roster. Ellis played in 10 games last season, recording six tackles and a forced fumble. Loving was a standout a Blinn College before transferring to UNT.
