DALLAS A firefighter was critically injured Saturday evening while battling a house fire in Southeast Dallas.

The Dallas Fire-Rescue employee, whose name was not released, suffered burns over 35 to 40 percent of his body according to News 8 sources. He was said to be in critical but stable condition Sunday at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

The firefighter's family asked that further information be withheld.

'Anytime one of your brothers gets injured, we treat it with the utmost seriousness,' fire department spokesman Jason Evans said.

That one-story residence in the 4700 block of Chilton Drive was gutted, and dozens of firefighters remained at the scene for hours Saturday night keeping an eye on hot spots.

Three people who were in the home when the two-alarm fire broke out all got out safely.

'Everything was just going up in flames,' said neighbor Brian Navarro. 'I just feel sorry for the family. You just don't know what to do.'

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
