DALLAS Van Dralen Dixson has been charged with a fifth aggravated sexual assault in connection with a string of nine rapes in the Fair Park area, court records indicate.
Dixson, 38, is the Dallas Police Department's sole suspect in the sexual assaults, which all took place between June 22 and Sept. 1. A person of interest was named but later cleared of the crimes.
Dixson was taken into custody in Baton Rouge on Sept. 10. Investigators said he left his three children with a family member, abandoned his car at a Garland McDonalds and bought a bus ticket to the furthest place he could afford Baton Rouge.
When he was arrested, he was working odd jobs at the motel where he was staying. U.S. Marshals tracked him because of a tip from a coworker whom he called from a borrowed cell phone in Louisiana, court documents say.
Prior to Monday, police linked him to four of the nine rapes by DNA evidence. According to Dallas County court records, he admitted to multiple rapes in an interview with Dallas detectives in Baton Rouge on Sept. 10. However, he said only two 'affected' him: 'the woman with the kids and the 'chicken lady.'' The other sexual assaults, he said, were prostitution deals that went bad 'and he had nothing to apologize for on those incidents.'
Dixson is accused of raping a woman on Sept. 1 as she walked home from work at a nearby fast food chicken restaurant. An arrest warrant also links him to the Aug. 30 rape of a woman who was walking with her children to a DART bus stop at 5:45 a.m. He ordered the two kids, a 15-year-old and a 9-year-old, to leave while he sexually assaulted their mother, an affidavit says.
While a search warrant return has not been unsealed, court records say 'a weapon was not found in the execution of any of the search warrants.' The rapist allegedly used a handgun during each of the rapes.
The court records say his ex wife supplied receipts for a .40 caliber chrome handgun similar to what the victims have described to investigators. Dixson's employer also told police he has seen him carrying the gun while at work. Dixson also owns a home on Baldwin Ave., roughly a block from the first reported rape.
He's being held in the Dallas County Jail on $5 million bond.
