ANNA The City of Anna is Collin County was left high and dry Wednesday night after a water main break.

It's the third major pipe to burst in North Texas in the last three nights.

In this case, the city said a contractor is responsible for severing the 15-inch line that services the entire town about 40 miles north of Dallas. The outage, which began around 5:30 p.m., affects more than 9,000 residents.

We are asking our residents to be patient and understanding as we work to restore water to our system, said City Manager Philip Sanders in a written statement issued Wednesday night.

Residents should avoid using any water until full pressure is restored, the city said, adding that workers were having a difficult time isolating the break.

Sanders said it could be Thursday morning before the broken pipe can be repaired.

On Monday, a water main burst in Northwest Dallas, damaging pavement and sending a cascade of water coursing toward dozens of area homes.

Another water main ruptured in Fort Worth on Tuesday, directing a powerful stream at a single home, causing damage to the structure and its contents.
