DALLAS A man known as the voice of the African-American community in Dallas has a new place in local history.

The city on Saturday renamed Rochester Park, at 3000 Municipal Street, after William Bill Blair Jr., one month shy of his 90th birthday.

The former Negro League baseball pitcher and founder of The Elite News is well established in the community. He established the city's first parade to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Blair says he attributes his success to a work ethic. It's one thing that I learned all of my life, he said. I never quit nothing that I start. If I start it, I'm going to end it.

The dedication ceremony included baseball games, band performances, and other family-friendly activities, and was attended by Mayor Mike Rawlings and other City Council members.
