An American Airlines flight from London-Heathrow to D/FW International Airport was diverted to Tulsa after mechanical problems forced an emergency landing Friday night.
According to KTUL in Tulsa, the passengers on American Airlines Flight 79 have not been allowed to deplane because it is an international flight and passengers must go through customs.
According to an American Airlines spokesman, there was a problem with the Boeing 777's left engine that forced the captain to declare an in-flight emergency. The plane, carrying 230 passengers and 14 crew, landed safely in Tulsa around 6:30 p.m.
The passengers were expected be moved to a new plane in Tulsa by 9:30 p.m., according to the airline spokesperson, with an arrivel at D/FW Airport by 11:30 Friday night.
