Kasey Gandy is the de-facto 'leader' of a group of six Fort Worth firefighters who are climbing Alaska's Mount McKinley, better known as Denali in the 49th State.

In a telephone report on July 6, he announced that the team has arrived at the 17,000-foot 'high camp' after a 'really long climb.'

'It was beautiful and amazing,' he said. 'Everyone's feeling great.'

He said the group would wait to see what the weather does in preparation for a possible attempt at the 20,000-foot summit on Monday.

The firefighters using the climb to raise money for the Sons of the Flag Foundation for Burn Survivors.
