Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis was among staff and students at Sandy Hook Elementary School the day in 2012 when a young shooter killed a total of 28 people.

On that day, she sheltered her young first grade students in a bathroom.

Thursday at 11:30 a.m., she will be honored with a Spirit of CONTACT award at the Khmer Ballroom at the Hilton Anatole.

Roig-DeBellis stopped by News 8 Daybreak to talk with Alexa Conomos about the tragic day and her positive actions in the aftermath through the program Classes 4 Classes.
