DALLAS Under pressure to come into compliance with insurance rules that protect taxi passengers, Yellow Cab is speaking out.

News 8 broke the story that the City of Dallas has given Yellow special treatment for 12 years by letting the company operate without sufficient insurance, a policy that puts its passengers at risk.

In response to our reports, the city demanded Yellow come into compliance with insurance requirements that apply to other taxi firms operating in Dallas.

In a letter to the mayor and City Council members on Tuesday, Yellow wrote that it has always gone to great lengths to comply with all rules, and immediately obtained new insurance when the city asked.

Yellow said the city should focus its attention on Uber, the transportation app, which it called 'unauthorized, unregulated and uninsured.'

The City of Dallas has not yet certified that Yellow's new insurance policy is sufficient.
