Online shopping giant Amazon has begun hiring to fill its two distribution centers in Haslet and Coppell.
The Seattle-based company said Monday that it s hiring 1,000 hourly workers who will help prepare and ship items to its customers. The 1.1 million square foot Coppell location will handle the store s larger inventory like televisions while the center in Haslet will ship smaller items such as books and video games.
According to many of the public job listings, most employees will be paid $15 per hour, a rate that s about 30 percent higher than traditional retail stores, the company said. That amount does not include stock grants, which add 9 percent to a fulltime employee s base pay.
The so-called fulfillment centers were announced at the beginning of the year and promised to bring more than 1,000 jobs to the state.
Amazon will also open a 1.1 million square foot center in the city of Schertz, which is located about 20 miles northeast of San Antonio. The company has not begun hiring there.
