CEDARHILL-- A violent hit-and-run crash tore Cedar Hill Police Officer Victor Vasquez's family apart.

His son Ethan, just 13 years old, died in that crash two and a half weeks ago.His wife was also badly injured.

Now Officer Vasquez is getting some help. Abenefit is taking place Friday at Cedar Hill Fire Station 211 at 11 a.m.

The goal is to raise as much money as possible to help relieve some of the financial stress the Vasquez's have been facing. After burying their son last month, Mrs.Vasquez is still recovering and that's racking up hefty medical bills.

Officer Vasquez is a 20-year veteran of the Cedar Hill Police Department and works on a limited income.

The family must also emotionally prepare for what could be a long and lengthy trial for the two men accused of the hit-and-run, Dagoberto Castanon and Rogelio Avila. The pair was arrested last Friday in Florida and are awaiting extradition back toTexas.

There is a lot for the Vasquez family to grasp in such a short amount of time. But the hope Friday is to provide them with the financial support they need so they can put their energy on what matters most: they're recovery and justice forEthan.

The fundraiser is a BBQ and will offer ribs, hot links, pulled pork, desserts and more. Organizers say any donation is welcome. All of the proceeds will go to the Vasquez family.
