DALLAS After months of delays, a mammoth steam locomotive is finally (but slowly) headed to its new retirement home in Collin County.
The million pound "Big Boy" was pushed out of the siding at Dallas Fair Park where it has spent nearly the last five decades on Sunday, starting a 55-mile move to the Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco.
The huge engine was built in the 1940s to transport war materials on the rails.
On Sunday, longtime railroad men (and even wide-eyed little boys) came to see the Big Boy off on its next chapter.
"I'm really excited," said young Daniel Cate. "It's actually pretty impressive, and I see why they call it the Big Boy... because it's big!"
It's been slow going. The locomotive was scheduled to be in Frisco by late Sunday afternoon, but there have been several delay along the way.
