DALLAS Dallas police canceled an Amber Alert for a six-year-old boy shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday after he was found safe and his father was taken into custody.
A police spokesman said the incident started around 6 o'clock when a witness called 911 to say that the suspect had been involved in a "major disturbance" with his ex-wife in the 900 block of Emberwood Drive. He allegedly had a knife and threatened to kill family members and himself.
The man left the scene with his son and an Amber Alert was issued out of concern for the child's safety.
The boy was found safe about three-and-a-half hours later after his father left him with a relative at an apartment complex in the 8000 block of Rothington Road.
Not far away, the suspect surrendered to police a short time later.
The 25-year-old suspect, whom police declined to name prior to being booked, has previously been arrested on charges including drug possession and burglary, according to criminal records.
