GRAND PRAIRIE -- Police are gathering evidence Wednesday in an overnight shooting that left a man injured.

The victim tried to run away, but the suspect chased him down.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Timber Oaks. A man just returned home from school last night, and police say as he got out of his car, a suspect hit him over the head.

The victim ran towards his apartment for safety and the suspect apparently chased him before shooting him in the leg.

The victim called 911 and was transported to an area hospital. He told police the suspect took off on foot after the shooting.

Police are still looking for the suspect Wednesday, and are investigating the incident as an attempted robbery.

The victim's name has not been released. His condition is unknown.
